I am an amateur photographer. So was Herbert List, and neither of us interpret that as a disadvantage.
At the core of my approach is the surrealist principle that the extrordinary is found within the ordinary, the overlooked, or the banal. A principle so well worn it might in itself be a banality; an irony which I think is more interesting than depressing.
The fact that you have found something- anything- interesting enough to make a photograph of it makes it a fit subject for photography. Every photograph is astonishing, especially if you want it to be.
